In search of ideas for a basement laundry room makeover?

You might just want to take inspiration from a recent Washtower customer project. The following images document the process of transforming what was a cluttered space into a stylish and highly functional laundry room.

Whether you have a traditional basement or a lower ground floor space, a successful laundry room makeover relies on the right storage solutions.

Discover how our laundry cabinet units provided the perfect statement piece that made the rest of the design come together. We think you’ll agree it’s a truly stunning result!

How The Basement Looked Before

Before the transformation, our customer had a very familiar problem on their hands. That is, a laundry room that not only lacked storage but also any kind of design to the room. As a result, clothes, detergent and clutter filled the room.

While the basics of the room looked promising in terms of the clean white walls and practical flooring, a solution was badly needed to make the space efficient and appealing.

With research finding the average UK adult will do 13,000 loads of laundry in their lifetime — creating a functional space to do the laundry could not be more needed for our customer.

After The Basement Laundry Room Makeover

In what is a spectacularly sleek and elegant result, our customer opted for a side by side configuration with added storage for their laundry units.

While you may also wish to place your washer and dryer next to each other, another popular option is to stack the laundry appliances on top of each other. We commonly get asked ‘can you put a tumble dryer on top of a washing machine?’, and this is certainly possible with the right units and overall setup in place.

Allowing the rest of the space to be better utilised, our customer opted to add a storage unit onto their laundry cabinet configuration, which we think is a fantastic basement laundry room storage idea. Simply put, detergents and accessories can be kept close to the washing machine without having to be out on display.

Making the most of the clean aesthetic, our white laundry cabinet units seamlessly blend into the room. With some finishing touches and personalised accessories, this basement laundry space genuinely looks like a different home!

Benefits Of Doing Laundry In The Basement

If you’re lucky enough to have a basement or lower ground floor space, why not use the room to your advantage?

As a highly repetitive task, laundry is something that happens in most homes on a daily basis. By moving the laundry to the basement, piles of messy laundry along with the noise of your machines are kept out of sight, not to mention out of earshot.

Depending on the size of your basement, you may also have greater flexibility in terms of the size of the laundry cabinets and even the number of machines you wish to house.

For instance, it’s not uncommon for larger families to require two washing machines. The basement may provide more space to accommodate the exact appliances and storage that work best for your family setup.

Basement Laundry Room FAQs

Is It A Good Idea To Put A Laundry Room In A Basement?

If you want your laundry to be kept in a separate part of your home and away from your main living areas, then moving your washer and dryer to the basement can be ideal. Furthermore, doing the laundry in the basement may provide more space to sort and store clothes.

Can I Put My Tumble Dryer In A Cupboard?

The answer to the question 'can you put a tumble dryer in a cupboard?' is generally yes, although it depends on the available utility connections and ventilation system. If you don’t have the right connections in place, it may still be possible to create a laundry setup in the basement if you have the budget to add these in.

How To Make Doing The Laundry More Ergonomic?

Opting for a raised washing machine can improve the user-friendliness of your machine by bringing it up off the floor to a comfortable working height. Raising the washing machine or dryer is possible with Washtower laundry units, with raised height accessories such as pull out trays also available.

As well as being better suited for those with disabilities, having the machines lifted off the floor can reduce the need for bending, lifting and twisting for everyone. In turn, the laundry becomes easier to complete due to improved ergonomics.

What Are The Advantages Of Stacking Washing Machine And Dryer?

When you’re short on space, stacking your appliances on top of each other can offer a clever solution. If you lack floor space but have plenty of room on the walls, you may even be able to add storage such as a dryer cupboard onto the wall too.
